Systemic Psychotherapists (often known as Family Therapists) have undergone rigorous training to work with individuals; children, adolescents and adults, as well as family groups and couples. I have extensive experience in working with all groups of people.
My particular speciality and passion is working with couples. After an introductory session with a couple to look at the issues they bring, I find it helpful to offer an individual session to each before commencing couple therapy. I am experienced in working with the many issues that can impact on couple relationships, such as communication difficulties; sexual difficulties; financial constraints; step-families; bereavement; physical and emotional illness; addictions and cross-cultural differences.
I have spent the majority of my working life in the Public Sector, initially as a Local Authority Social Worker and then in the NHS in a CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service) setting.
I re-trained at the Tavistock, completing a 4 year Masters Course in Systemic Psychotherapy after which I continued to work in an NHS CAMHS Service as a Family Therapist, primarily in the field of Eating Disorders.
I have also worked for Relate for many years as a Couple Counsellor.
